The Eight Zodiac Sign: Scorpio

Between roughly 10/23 and 11/21, the Sun is moving through the 30 degrees of the zodiac sign Scorpio (in my view, the most mysterious and "dark" archetype in the zodiac). During this seasonal juncture, the verdant bloom of summer starts to dry up, break down, and decay ... there is a sense of death in the air ... time's Grim Reaper beckons us towards the barren tundra of winter. Perhaps a part of us recoils and rebels against this disquieting inevitability; we compulsively cling to the warmth, light and busyness of summer. We resist the inevitabilty of death; we refuse the Sun's descent into darkness. Our human ego struggles seeing the necessity of decomposition and death as the fertile soil for new growth and life. However, in the end we are forced to accept that the only power we truly have, in the face of death and rebirth, is to surrender to the immutable law of change.
In the archetype of Scorpio, which is emphasized more for some people than others in their birth charts, we encounter the darker and shadowy dimensions of life: death, decay, trauma, fear, betrayal, abandonment, power and control, obsessions and compulsions. Through the descent into our own underworld we confront life's greatest pain and vulnerability. We confront our demons and shadows. We die to previous versions of who we thought we were. But we risk this dark confrontation so we can purify ourselves, and grow and evolve into something greater than we were before ... something more resilient, resourceful, self-aware, less afraid, authentic and whole. We discover the light of Spirit at the end of the long, dark tunnel, realizing with hard-earned maturity that light and dark are two sides of the same coin.
May this Scorpio season bring the healing you've long needed.
